What Extraction Do I Need for a Commercial Kitchen?
Our professionals can help you determine which type of extraction system is best for your specific needs. The type of cooking equipment you have, the size of your kitchen (and restaurant), and the number of patrons you serve will all play a role in determining the right extraction system for your needs. Our Vortex Division can design, deliver and install a range of systems which include:
- Extraction Canopies
- Ducting
- Air Replacement Systems
- Grease Filtration Systems
- Service Distribution Units (service spines)
- Odour Control Systems
- Fire Suppression Systems
We also deal with on demand ventilation, self contained kitchen ventilation, tempered air – the list goes on. You will have access to a genuine one stop shop with the Vortex team.
The Importance of Good Kitchen Extraction
Properly installed kitchen extraction systems are crucial for many reasons. Not only do they allow kitchens to function efficiently and effectively in busy conditions, they can also increase the longevity of the kitchen itself.
Our ventilation systems are individually designed to remove the build-up of heat and grease, which is generated as a by-product of the cooking process in commercial kitchens. Particulate matter, as well as fumes, vapours and heat are captured by the ventilation system and transported to a neutral point of discharge.
Improved Air Quality
Cooking food will produce many different irritants that can affect the air quality in many different ways. Poor ventilation can also lead to an accumulation of smoke, steam, and grease, which can cause health issues for kitchen staff and patrons. The objective of a well designed ventilation system is to dispense these irritants using the correct methods, and therefore improving the overall air quality within the kitchen.
Air recirculation must be considered for if a commercial kitchen ventilation system is to function properly. For example, the air leaving a kitchen through an extractor fan needs to be replenished with the equivalent amount of fresh air from outside. Our plenum ceiling systems can help facilitate air circulation for efficient heating and ventilation.
Odour Control
The cooking processes in a commercial kitchen can produce and release intense odours into the environment. Fitting effective odour control can counter this and greatly reduce the nuisance of noxious odours at the point of exhaust. Corsair’s odour control systems can be designed as part of a complete ventilation package, or potentially incorporated as a retrospective addition to an existing system. This can assist with meeting local council / environmental specifications, or in sensitive areas of development.
Does a Commercial Kitchen Need Extraction?
For most commercial kitchens, the answer is yes. Legally, your kitchen should provide adequate ventilation, which protects the health and safety of both your employees and customers – as well as reducing the risk of fire. Cooking processes produce vapours, heat and other gases that need to be managed and effectively removed from the working environment.
- Without an extraction system in place, your local authority may not grant you planning permission.
- If a kitchen is being refurbished, you will need to ensure that any existing ventilation system is retained or replaced.
